Busy Bee is a hugely well known Clown Sketch with an enormous number of variations, and plenty of scope for improvisation and personalisation. It can be peformed with 2 or 3 Clowns, and goes something like this:
Billy and Molly are chatting...
Molly Do you like honey?
Billy Sure Do!
Molly Would you like some now?
Billy You Bet!!
Molly OK, but you have to do something first..
Billy Anything, just let me at that honey.
Molly Right, when I come back, you have to say this: Busy Bee, Busy Bee, what do you have in your hive for me?
Billy What, you mean I just have to say "Busy Bee, Busy Bee, what do you have in your hive for me" and then I get loads of honey?
Molly Absolutely. Now you stay here and practise while I get the honey.
Molly goes off and leaves Billy practising. Plenty of potential now for Billy having trouble remembering the phrase and getting help from the audience... Eventually Molly comes back with a big mouthful of water
Billy Have you got the Honey?
(Molly Nods head furiously)
Billy Shall I say it now?
(Molly Nods head furiously)
Billy OK, OK, let me think now... "Busy Bee, Busy Bee, what do you have in your hive for me"?
(Molly takes a deep breath and sprays the water all over Billy)
Billy Hey, that's not funny, I'm all wet!
Molly Never mind, find someone even more stupid than yourself and play the trick on them!
Molly goes off chortling to herself. Billy starts looking around for a suitable victim. Maybe he checks out people in the audience, etc. Finally Charlie appears, looking very silly (This can be Molly in a different hat, or with a moustache, etc...)
Billy Hey, you, excuse me...
Charlie Duh, what?
Billy Do you like honey?
Charlie Sure Do!
Billy Would you like some now?
Charlie You Bet!!
Billy OK, but you have to do something first..
Charlie Anything, just let me at that honey.
Billy Right, when I come back, you have to say this: Busy Bee, Busy Bee, what do you have in your hive for me, OK?
Charlie What, you mean I just have to say "Busy Bee, Busy Bee, what do you have in your hive for me" and then I get loads of honey?
Billy Absolutely. Now you stay here and practise while I get the honey.
Charlie starts muttering the words to himself while Billy rushes to the back of the stage and gets a huge mouthful of water from a bottle. Then he rushes back to Charlie
Charlie Say the words now?
(Billy nods furiously)
OK, here we go... Err, Busy Bee, Busy Bee, what have you got in your jar for me?
(Billy turns away from Charlie and sprays all the water out) No, No, NO! You have to say - "Busy Bee, Busy Bee, what do you have in your HIVE for me"
Charlie Oh, HIVE, I've got it now...
The two repeat this routine many times, - sometimes Charlie gets the words wrong, sometimes Billy trips up running over with his mouthful of water and spits it out, use your imagination here for your own original bits. Each time Billy gets more and more flustered and furious. Finally, when he runs off to get his 'honey', Charlie rushes off to the other side and fills his mouth with water from another bottle. They both rush onto centre stage and stand shoulder to shoulder.
Billy gestures to Charlie to say the words
Charlie just shrugs his shoulders and looks at the sky
Billy gets more agitated with his gestures but Charlie just flutters around like a butterfly, or is it a Bee... Once again here is a wonderful opportunity for improvisation as Billy tries to get Charlie to say the words and Charlie does anything but. Finally in a rage Billy sprays out his water and shouts...
Billy No, No, NO!!! It's "Busy Bee, Busy Bee, what do you have in your hive for me"
Charlie Now turns to the audience, smiles sweetly, then turns to Billy, and lets him have it! (Plenty of scope for comic timing here...)
Billy chases Charlie off with whoops and screams...
This sketch can be very funny with 2 clowns, as Molly ends up soaking Billy twice, plus all the comedy around him not recognising her, etc, etc
